The Witcher took the world by storm, didn’t it? Just yesterday, Andrzej Sapkowski‘s novel series was merely popular in Poland. Today, the story of Geralt and his monster-killing ways are known all around the world! It’s wonderful, isn’t it? So, whether it’s through the Sapkowski’s novels or CD Projekt RED’s games, I’m glad our shared interest has brought us together! While I’d love to talk about Sapkowski’s novels, I’m here to disscuss and rank the best music from The Witcher! Yes, I’m referring to the first game, released in 2007. Without further ado, I present to you, the 5 best The Witcher songs!
I played The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, and let me tell you, it was a wonderful journey! So, if you haven’t played it yet, make sure that it lands on your gaming bucket list. It’s never too late for a classic!
This list is about honoring Adam Skorupa and Paweł Blaszczak, the composers of The Witcher. Make sure to check them out!
5. Evening In the Tavern
I doubt anyone is surprised? Surely I wasn’t alone in visiting the tavern, simply to hear this jolly and happy-go-lucky tune? Irregardless of my weird habits, it’s obvious that a joyous song like this would stand out in the midst of serious and gloomy songs. While I’m not saying it’s better than the rest, it’s simply more effective than some battle music, actually making me feel joyous! Admittedly, I could be alone on this one. But, I can’t help but hear laughter, see comradery and get “a night to be remembered” vibes. Therefore, I sincerely value Evening In the Tavern, and suggest everyone listen to it!
4. River of Life
This is peaceful, spiritual and angelic, making me think of an elven heaven and Rivendell! The Lord of the Rings reference aside, I can’t help but to feel at ease and content when listening to River of Life. It’s an exhale, in the midst of holding your breath during countless battles and suspensful moments. Simply put, it’s a breath of fresh air, giving you some space to relax from killing Drowners! Honestly, the range of the composers made The Witcher memorable, with River of Life among the very best tracks from the OST.
3. The Dike
This song brings back memories, doesn’t it? Admittedly, they all do! However, The Dike is special. It’s a song that accurately describes the feelings of sadness and loneliness. It’s somewhat complex, and can make you feel a wide range of emotions. While it starts with a feeling of despair, the song ends with a glimmer of hope! It’s like seeing a rainbow after a storm. It’s beautiful, if only for a fleeting moment. In turn, it’s atmospheric, with simple melodies tied together wonderfully!
I wonder, what do you feel when hearing The Dike? I think of meadows, trees blowing in the wind and birds flying away at the Vizima outskirts! Anyways, it’s a journey, and easily among the best The Witcher songs!
2. Dusk of a Northern Kingdom
This song starts off slow and gentle, as if in a dream. Only to be pulled into a nightmare, and awakened by a monster, or Vaska. Whichever scares you the most, to be fair? Nevertheless, this song encompasses a journey, like few others tracks, making me feel alive! While the violins can make you feel calm and collected, the terrifying undertones can make you fearful, with the triumphant ending tying it beautifull together! Please enjoy this one, it’s quite magical!
Dusk of a Northern Kingdom is quite similar to The Princess Striga. They’re both fully-fledged melodic adventures! Just sit back, listen to the songs and let your mind wonder. The stories write themselves! Therefore, my hand is forced, to rank this as among the best The Witcher songs!
1. The Princess Striga
Who can forget The Witcher’s opening cinematic? It’s our first glimpse of the White Wolf, seeing him fighting a Striga accompanied by this breathtaking song, appropriately titled: The Princess Striga.
This song is a journey, taking you on a rollercoaster of mixed emotions, and I love it! It’s like taking a trip down memory lane, covered in Drowner blood, dirty gold and thousands of stories! It’s the sheer method of letting the melodies breathe that i enjoy the most. Therefore, the listener has time to gather their thoughts, before the tempo and melodies change! While it starts off calm and beautiful, it’s not long before we are hit with eerie undertones and some epic battle music! Honestly, it’s the type of song that makes me want to swing at the closest tree, and ask people to hold me back. Maybe that’s just me? Nevertheless, music is about what it makes us feel, and achieving that is nothing short of magical, am I right?
To me, this song screams The Witcher. From the song structure, to the adventurous melodies, it’s Geralt of Rivia through and through! Enough said. For me, The Princess Striga is the very best of The Witcher songs!
