To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts (Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e) is a fun, easy to watch, action adventure, with plenty of great music. It’s composed by the talented Yoshihiro Ike, who put together some majestic, melodic, and downright terrifying pieces of music for this anime. I mean all of those things as compliments of course, as I’m creating this list to draw attention to his amazing ability, and make sure we never forget how music amplifies moments in some of our favorite shows. So, without further ado, I present to you the top 5 best songs in To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts!
5. Patria
The slow heartbeat is of an aching heart trying to keep going in the midst of darkness. In this slow climb of the instrumentals, the opera-like musical performance echoes like church bells through my core. It’s so mighty. So powerful, with an underlying sense of a last march. What comes, can go. What falls, can rise. It’s a song for the people looking for that last breath to be able to finish their mission! I just really like this ANTHEM!
It’s titled Patria, after the democratic republic of the same name. In turn, it’s the anthem of the republic. It’s epic, and absolutely breathtaking, with the utmost impressive instrumental.
4. Captain’s Creed
What can I say? I’m a sucker for a choir, accompanied by anthemic instrumentals that make me feel like I can conquer the world! Captain’s Creed makes me want to stick out my chest, straighten my back, and walk through all of my problems with the might of a hundred men! It’s a track that gives me such an amazing feeling, and that’s why I had to include it on my list. Captain’s Creed is one of those anthems that will stick with you, long after you’ve finished the show, and that’s honestly very special.
While the song is titled Captain’s Creed, it also gives off a feeling of impending doom. As if to say that things will go badly, if you don’t finish your mission. But it also comes across like an epic march for glory, through hell and brimstone, with nothing able to stop your determined mind. While you can find various feelings to the song, there’s no denying it’s genuine quality. It’s a song that would’ve been a smash hit, would it have been for a bigger, more popular, TV anime. I’m 100% sure of that!
3. Beatrice’s Lullaby
Beatrice’s Lullaby is a song that is actually sung by Beatrice in anime, and it’s a heartbreaking moment, in more ways than one. It’s not only a song about her beloved, lost at sea, but also a story of maybe one day being together and singing songs as one. It’s truly a tearjerker in every way imaginable, with a soothing, almost haunting, style of singing. I just feel overcome with a bunch of emotions when listening to Beatrice’s Lullaby, as it hits my heart deeply.
What makes this song even better is that episode 8, where we hear Beatrice singing this song, is one of the most emotional episodes in To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts. Therefore, you’ll feel every line even more, as it’s not a random song that comes out of nowhere, it’s tied well into the story of episode 8.
2. HHOOWWLL – Gero x ARAKI
This mellow, somber, haunting ending song is the perfect track to end each episode on, as it amplifies whatever you felt in the episode you just watched. It’s not merely about the superb song structure that lures you in, but the lyrics that are all about Hank, and his inner wolf. But more specifically, it’s about the pain of his existence combined with his mission to get rid of all the last incarnates. Considering that he does it all with a heavy heart, both his inner wolf, and his soul, is howling. It doesn’t let him rest or be at ease, before he’s finished with his mission – to kill all incarnates.
What elevates this song in my book is how the low whispering makes you want to listen closer to what is being said. While the ending of the track feels very elevating, as if to empower Hank in his journey, and make us as viewers ready for what’s to come! This song structure is superb, and I truly think that Gero and ARAKI do a fantastic job with HHOOWWLL.
1. Sacrifice – Mafumafu
Not only is the ending song about Hank, so is the opening song, titled appropriately Sacrifice. Whatever way you look at it, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts is Hank’s story of rectifying the problem of the Incarnates, by killing them all, and putting an end to this twisted experiment. In this song, the lyrics beautifully explain how Hank sacrificed his humanity when becoming an Incarnate. But it also tells a story of his mangled soul that is dying slowly. Why? Hank, the former captain of the Incarnates, is now killing the people he fought next to in the great war. If that’s not soul-defining, then I don’t know what is!
Mafumafu makes this song feeling like your soul is screaming and your heart is aching. I mean that he’s intentionally straining his voice, and the screechy, almost yelling, undertone give me that effect. It’s absolutely brilliant, as it gives so much emotion, making the song feel alive. It’s a feeling amplified by the over-the-top instrumentals and rock base. I really like it. It’s well put together from top to bottom.
Now, I’m gonna crown Sacrifice as the best track in the anime! 👑 You might agree, you might not, but I’m interested in hearing your opinion! As for me, Sacrifice is the best! I hope that you enjoyed my list of the top 5 best songs in To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts!
