How to Train Your Dragon (2010) is an action adventure with heartwarming comedy. Together with Hiccup, we’re thrown into this crazy world, filled with even crazier characters. I’m talking about the likes of Fishlegs and the constantly-fighting twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut. It’s honestly amazing that HTTYD isn’t a full-blown comedy, considering that it’s full of funny characters. In turn, I’d like to delve into the topic even further, and see who’s the funniest Viking or dragon in How to Train Your Dragon. So, how about we jump right in? I’m pleased to present you with a list of the top 5 funniest characters in How to Train Your Dragon (2010)!
5. Fishlegs
Voice By: Christopher Mintz-Plasse
He may be smart when it comes to dragons, but his mildly amusing mannerisms and hilarious character design steal the spotlight from his marvelous brain! Well, I guess you could say that for a side character, Fishlegs serves his purpose well. He gives us some much-needed insight on dragons, while also being a comedic relief character that’ll give us a handful of giggles. I’m not sure you’d laugh at anything he does, but he definitely deserves some love for his comedy. Therefore, I’m glad to start off the list with Fishlegs!
4. Hiccup
Voice By: Jay Baruchel
Hiccup isn’t the traditionally funny character who jokes around and says clever stuff. Quite the opposite, as he’s funny in an awkward way. It’s his goofy and uncomfortable behavior, as well as his approach to socializing, that makes him hilarious to watch. It’s like witnessing a fish out of water. No, I don’t mean that Hiccup flops around like a fish. I’m saying that he’s just out of his element in most situations in life, and only feels comfortable and at home doing things he loves. Everything else feels foreign. And so, he’s a funny character to follow, for all the wrong reasons.
🥉 Ruffnut & Tuffnut
Voiced By: Kristen Wiig as Ruffnut & T.J. Miller as Tuffnut
These twins may tease each other and constantly bicker, but they are more alike than they are different. I’d actually say that they are inseperable, whether they want to admit it or not. After all, the two of them share a dragon, look and act almost the same. While it’s hardly surprising, as they are twins, it’s just a very special dynamic that Ruffnut and Tuffnut have. I’d say that it’s the reason I find them funny.
🥈 Gobber
Voice By: Craig Ferguson
Gobber’s the wise-cracking “uncle”, who’s always got a smile on his face. Whether he’s about to get killed by dragon fire or stomped to death by The Red Death, he always carries himself in an exceptionally humorous way. It doesn’t matter if he’s trying to be funny or not. Half of the things he does that are funny are physical, and thanks to his funny character design, it’s hard not to laugh with, and together, with Gobber. With that being said, I’m more than happy to put Gobber 1st on my list of the 5 funniest How to Train Your Dragon (2010) characters!
🥇 Toothless
When it comes to physical comedy, nobody comes close to The Night Fury, Toothless. Not only does the pitch black dragon have humorous mannerisms, but his facial expressions are simply gut-wrenchingly hilarious. When he’s trying to smile or draw in the sand like Hiccup, his effort is admirable, and the result is downright funny. Best of all, Toothless is very cute, so whatever he does, serious or not, results in a aweeee moment. If that doesn’t count towards comedy, I’d say fair enough. But I’m gonna give him a few extra point for being adorable. While he doesn’t utter a single word, his actions speak louder than Gobber does! Therefore, I’ll give him the 1st place on my list of the 5 funniest character in How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
