Charlie’s Angels is a movie that’s as goofy and cringy as it’s hot and action-packed. It’s a sexy flick, with tons of over-the-top action scenes and ridiculously bad acting, but somehow it still works! I’m not even kidding. It’s fun, light-hearted, movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Therefore, the characters feel like they are from a comic-book, and they act so crazy that they all come across as caricatures of better characters. Nevertheless, it’s time to rank the top 5 best Charlie’s Angels (2000) characters, and down below is the ranking! Enjoy!

5. Thin Man
Crispin Glover plays the Thin Man, our loveable weirdo, who has a hair fetish that drives him into a frenzy! But I’m not one to judge, as I’m “weird” in my own ways. However, the fact that he’s weird is important, as his entire character revolves around being different from others. I mean, he’s not your typical bruting buff bad guy, who’s constantly mean mugging and who’s constantly saying dumb one-liners. Quite the contrary, as the Thin Man is slender, tall, dark and composed, with emo-vibes that’ll give you shivers! Plus, he’s quite acrobatic, somewhat psychotic, and completely wacky because of his fetish for hair. Therefore, he’s a pretty darn good villain!
Enough of the compliments! Now it’s time to dig into the reason he ranks at #5 on my list of the best Charlie’s Angels characters. Firstly, the character has 0 depth, being as hollow as an empty water bottle. Secondly, his motivation is never explained and neither is his behavior. Thirdly, he’s simply a glorified henchman, who sadly only stands out because of his oddities. With that being said, I can’t rank him any higher, as the character is downright shallow. But he is captivating and somewhat interesting. In addition, the look and his moments in the movie are badass, so I have to give him some props.
4. Bosley
Bill Murray is always great, and while he barely acts in this one, his wholesome energy and his loveable personality carry him as Bosley. However, the character is extremely shallow, with us not getting a single glimpse into who Bosley actually is, and that’s a problem. With that being said, casting Bill Murray in the role is the only reason the character is mildly interesting. If you take away the actor, the character itself is really badly written. I mean, there’s no motivation, no storyline, no reason to do anything. He’s just there because the writers say he has to be. In turn, he easily snatches the 4th spot, but that’s it. Simply put, the Angels stole the show!
3. Alex
There’s a reason Charlie’s Angels is one of Lucy Liu‘s most memorable performances, as she steps out of her comfort zone, creating an awkwardly badass character in Alex. While she’s as stiff as a board in some scenes, she’s as smooth as jazz in others. Thus, she comes across like a professional trying to hide her identity, which is exactly what she’s trying to do! Therefore, the awkward and stiff acting, somewhat works. But is it intentional is another question entirely?
When you consider the ridiculous screenplay and poor character writing, Lucy Liu does a good job playing Alex. All thing considered, of course. But it just shows how dedicated Lucy Liu was to the role, as she delivered a fitting performance. She’s different from Dylan and Natalie, and she stands out in her own way. However, that doesn’t mean that the character itself was great. It just means that Lucy Liu was able to pour herself into the role, make something out of very little, and stand our in a colorful cast of characters. Therefore, she ranks 3rd on my list of the top 5 Charlie’s Angels characters.
2. Dylan
Dylan is the tough tom-boy, who’s constantly going against the grain, and therefore she’s not your “girl next door”. If anything, she’s the girl that would actually live next door to you. Thus, I must give some props to Drew Barrymore, who brings tons of attitude and self-confidence to Dylan. While the writers definitely created the character, Drew made Dylan come to life and feel very realistic, which is no small feat. In a movie where everybody and everything is over-the-top, Dylan is kind of like the gravitational point. She’s the “normal” one, unapologetically being herself, and I love it. Therefore, the only things over-the-top about Dylan is her abilities and crazy fight moves. Besides that, behaviorally, she’s the most relatable angel by a mile and a half!
1. Natalie
Cameron Diaz knocked this role out of the park, didn’t she? It’s crazy that she was able to play Natalie this well, considering that the character is a quirky goofball, who’s also a witty badass. I mean, she shakes her butt as well as beating the butt of others, and that takes some talent, you know? Therefore, I was impressed by how Cameron Diaz was able to play this character, as Natalie is not well-written. If anything, she’s a simple character. Honestly speaking, Natalie is only a good character thanks to Cameron’s dedication and effort in making her entertaining. However, the end result speaks for itself, and Natalie is 100% entertaining, from the first second to the very last.
The craziest thing is that she’s fully committed to the role and the character, selling some of the most questionable acts with a breeze! Simply put, she doesn’t seem to struggle. It’s like the role was written for her, and therefore, she nails the character perfectly! It’s safe to say that you’ll walk away from Charlie’s Angels, remembering Natalie more than any other character. Therefore, she’s tops my list of the top 5 best Charlie’s Angels characters!
