Studio MAPPA‘s Jujutsu Kaisen has plenty of amazing lines, so I have to write a list for episode 2, just like I did for episode 1! While Gojo Satoru and Megumi Fushiguro have excellent quotes in episode 2, I have to say that Masamichi Yaga stole the show with his lines. But how many of his great quotes from his ending monologue make the list? How about we jump right in and find out? Here are the 21 best quotes of Jujutsu Kaisen: Episode 2!
๐ The 18 Best Quotes In Jujutsu Kaisen: Episode 1 ๐
“Hey! I wasn’t planning on coming, but man, you’re roughed up. I should show the second-years.” – Gojo Satoru
Following the gruesome battle against The Occult Club curse, Megumi was ready and willing to exorcise Yuji Itadori after Sukuna took over his body. Just seconds later, we are introduced to the blue-eyed, white-haired, Gojo Satoru. With a tiny bag of Kikufuku in his hand, he arrives at the scene, only to scold Megumi in a light-hearted and funny way. It’s like Gojo doesn’t even think that the situation is serious, as he started making light of the situation. Heck, he started snapping pictures of our bruised and bloody Megumi! It’s downright hilarious, isn’t it? Thus I have to start my list of the 21 best Jujutsu Kaisen quotes of episode 2 with this gem!
This has to go down in history as one of the best character introductions of all time, doesn’t it? And I’m not just talking about anime, but of all kind of media. It’s a special way to showcase a character, as we see both his kind and light-hearted side through physical and verbal comedy, while also seeing his big heart and volcanic strength at the same time. After all, Gojo said that he wasn’t even planning on coming, but he likely understood the situation at hand and came anyways. It wasn’t for himself, Itadori or Sukuna, it was to look out for Megumi. It was clear as day, and I loved it. But the way in which he showed his brotherly love for him is what made it such a special moment.
“Damn, it really did combine with you. That’s hilarious.” – Gojo Satoru
Reaching this moment in Jujutsu Kaisen, I was still mystified by Gojo’s character. So imagine my shock when Gojo had this type of a laid-back and nonchalant reaction to Yuji swallowing Sukuna’s finger, and thus combining with the King of Curses. In the midst of this scary ordeal, Gojo acts as cool as a cucumber. It’s like he’s the epitome of serenity, the way he walks, talks and prances around without a care in the world. In turn, his composure was unexpected, and so was his high self-confidence. To see such an easy-going response to something this serious was a testament to Gojo’s power, something that he put on full display later on in the series.
The word selection is what makes this quote stand out, isn’t it? Gojo doesn’t say that it’s funny that Yuji combined with Sukuna, but that it’s “hilarious”. Meaning that he genuinelly thinks it’s gut-wrenchingly humorous that an innocent young man ate Sukuna’s finger!? It’s a crazy thing to say, isn’t it? Best of all, his entire word selection and delivery of lines makes it seem as if he is actually surprised that someone survived eating Sukuna’s finger. It’s a baffling reaction. It’s great. Easily one of the best quotes of Jujutsu Kaisen: Episode 2!
“Don’t worry, I’m the strongest.” – Gojo Satoru
This quote will go down in anime history as one of the most confident, cocky and surprisingly badass lines ever uttered. It’s not just about Gojo’s confidence in himself and his abilities, but how his unrivaled self-esteem and self-understanding gives him an otherwordly presence. It’s encompassed by this amazing quote, as he’s not joking or being sarcastic – Gojo fully believes that he’s the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer out there! Talk about having confidence in yourself, in your abilities and in your skill to defeat that which you do not understand. It’s amazing. Thus, I think it’s one of the best Jujutsu Kaisen quotes in episode 2.
“This guy actually went and bought souvenirs! When people were out here dying!” – Megumi Fushiguro
Gojo… you went and bought souvenirs? Oh, you bought yourself some snacks? Kikufuku!? I’ll be damned. I didn’t expect the white-haired, blue-eyed, devil to do something like this! While I can understand that he was enjoying his evening, it’s weird to show up with snacks in-hand. Like, it’s not appropriate, now is it? Well, Megumi would agree, I’m sure of it. But Gojo’s easy-going nature is what makes him so likable. It’s like he encompasses everything it means to be wild and free, doing whatever you want as a person. It’s honestly delightful, but worrying.
“My student’s watching, so I’m going to show off a little.” – Gojo Satoru
It’s not easy to startle Sukuna, but hearing Gojo say that he’s going to “show off a little”, would likely send shivers down everyone’s spinal cord. It’s like being belittled and made fun of at the same time, isn’t it? While Gojo isn’t necessarily a bully, he’s definitely cocky. It’s no surprise, as he has the skills, technique and abilities to back it all up! Therefore, it’s one of the best quotes in Jujutsu Kaisen: Episode 2.
“You Jujutsu Sorcerers are always trouble, no matter what the era!” – Ryomen Sukuna
Talk about painting a powerful picture of Jujutsu Sorcerers? Considering that it’s coming from Mr. King of Curses himself, it’s high praise. While I wouldn’t consider Sukuna to be humble, he is definitely being very respectful of the Jujutsu Sorcerers, and the threat they impose to him and his existence. It’s done in a simplistic fashion, with Sukuna saying that these Sorcerers are “always trouble, no matter the era!” Thus, he’s acknowledging that they are strong, while also saying that they are bothersome to deal with. In turn, he’s paying an indirect compliment to the Jujutsu Sorcerers.
“Who the hell is this… Itadori… brat?” – Ryomen Sukuna
Yes, Ryomen Sukuna. That’s exactly what I’m wondering as well. When you consider the crazy strength, speed and agility that Yuji has, you can’t help but wonder if he’s fully human? In the very first episode, we see him break the world record in Shot Put, even showing insane ability in combat. It’s just crazy, isn’t it? So, I can understand Sukuna asking himself that question, as I’m sure many of us were asking the same thing!
What adds another layer to this quote is how shocked and irritated Ryomen Sukuna gets when Yuji takes over his body again. It’s like he’s bewildered, not knowing what’s going on or how to deal with the situation. In turn, it creates a really memorable quote.
“Our elders are cowards, you know. They’re demanding we kill you right away.” – Gojo Satoru
Gojo’s sly remarks show his blatant disdain towards the elders, the ones that are reinforcing the orders, and who are saying that Yuji Itadori should be executed ASAP. From a logical and reasonable standpoint, what the elders are saying makes perfect sense. However, we are not aware of everything that Gojo might know about these people that are in power. We are just not given enough information to make an objective assessment. But that’s the reason I liked this quote in the first place, as it hints at the elders and Gojo being at odds with each other. I guess you could say that the ominous feeling of this quote makes it a great one, as he calls the elders “cowards”.
“If we’re going to kill you anyways, why not kill you after you’ve absorbed all of Sukuna? The higher-ups agreed. So now you have two options before you. You can die right now, or you can find all the parts of Sukuna and die after you’ve absorbed them.” – Gojo Satoru
At face value, it’s a simple quote, but if you dig deeper, it holds numerous bits of valuable info. For one, Gojo is blatantly saying to Yuji Itadori that he’s going to use him as a way to collect all of Sukuna’s fingers. Then, he will kill him, alongside Sukuna. But what Gojo also reveals is that he had to get the “higher-ups” to agree with this suggestion. It means that he’s not in charge of making these kinds of decisions by himself. If that’s not enough already, he’s literally giving Yuji Itadori an ultimatum of dying now or dying later. It’s rather sinister, but also logical, if all of what Gojo is saying is true. In turn, it’s an interesting quote with lots of info, making it easily one of the best Jujutsu Kaisen quotes in episode 2.
“That finger was a special-grade cursed object. It had the power to draw other curses to it and make them stronger. So it wasn’t your fault. It was mine for picking it up. Sorry.” – Yuji Itadori
When Yuji Itadori visits Takeshi Iguchi in the hospital, he comes across Setsuko Sasaki, who’s crying her eyes out, blaming herself for the events in the school. She was the one to unwrap Sukuna’s finger, but she wasn’t the one to blame for the incidence. It was Yuji who picked up the finger in the first place, and if he never does that, nothing would’ve happened to Takeshi or Setsuko. While everyone obviously has a part to play in this tragic event, it’s Yuji who took the responsibility for it, which is truly heartwarming, isn’t it? For him to walk in there, see his friend in the hospital bed, then apologize, and even explain what the finger was. Therefore, I had to include this quote, it’s just wonderful to see such maturity in Yuji, already in Episode 2.
“It’s a good night when someone dies a normal death after encountering a curse.” – Gojo Satoru
Dying a “normal death” is a “good night” in a world filled with malicious curses, terrible acts of crime and heartwrenching conclusions to people’s lives. It’s a beautiful way to explain just how valuable a “normal death” is, without actually explaining what exactly it means. After all, that’s what Yuji Itadori is trying to find out, what’s a proper death? Therefore, these lines ring like church bells in my ears, as they show exactly how valuable life is, and how others can joy over the survival of people that have encountered a curse.
“So you’re not the boss? Any hierarcy other than strength is worthless.” – Ryomen Sukuna
When Ryomen Sukuna first faced off against Gojo Satoru, he was surprised by the strength of the blue-eyed, white-haired, devil. Weren’t we all?! Hence why Ryomen Sukuna thought that Gojo was the “boss”, or at least he was intrigued to find out that he wasn’t. While Gojo Satoru is obviously very powerful, he isn’t the one calling the shots, especially Tokyo Jujutsu High. In there, it’s Masamichi Yaga who’s the “boss”. However, that term is used very loosely, as being the principal in a school, Jujutsu or not, doesn’t mean that you’re the most powerful, but that you are apt at leading teachers and students towards a common goal. Therefore, I’d say that Sukuna’s remarks are awfully old-school, which makes sense considering his age.
The second part of the quote is downright ancient, isn’t it? Sukuna is saying that the hierarchy in Tokyo Jujutsu High doesn’t make sense, as he most likely felt that Gojo Satoru was superior to the principal. Hence why he joked about Gojo not being the “boss”. He was surprised to find out that there was another who Gojo answered to. In Sukuna’s world, and from his old view of the world, “strength” is the be all, end all, of determining the most suitable leader. In turn, the hierarchy that makes sense to Sukuna is based on strength. Not surprising, right? Considering that he’s the King of Curses, it makes sense for him to say something that would put him at the top of the heap!
“Once I make this brat’s body my own, you’ll be the first one I kill!” – Ryomen Sukuna
Ryomen Sukuna’s immense power disables him from taking defeat well, and considering how easily Gojo defeated him, it’s logical that the King of Curses would react this way. However, he isn’t necessarily angry. If anything, Sukuna is laughing, enjoying every moment, knowing that when the time comes, he will destroy Gojo. Well, if you know what happens in the manga, you know this to be a factual statement. Therefore, this quote is badass, and it’s one of Sukuna’s most intimidating.
“It’s an honor to be targeted by Sukuna.” – Gojo Satoru
Gojo is so lovable, isn’t he? His quirky behavior and light-hearted nature make him seem like the most goofy person in the world, but he oozes confidence. Every single pore he has is just filled with bubbly, energetic, humorous energy that gives him the self-confidence of a Greek God! It’s quite the sight, isn’t it? Best of all, it shows us that Gojo isn’t afraid of Sukuna, which is pretty badass. After all, Sukuna is the King of Curses.
While the quote itself is straight-forward, I wonder why Gojo used the word “honor”? I think that he chose that specific word to put himself on the same, or greater, level with Sukuna. It might be far-fetched, but when you’re honored, you feel a great level of respect and humility. When you consider that Gojo is often cocky, it’s surprising to hear him say that he’s honored to be threated by Sukuna. In turn, I believe he used that word to pump himself up, as he likely takes pride in being targeted by the King of Curses. It raises his own value and threat level as well. With that being said, I find the word selection to be sublime, as it shows Gojo’s inner self. It shows us that he cares about his reputation, his strength level, and that in fact he is mildly humble… if only at times.
“I’m Itadori Yuji! I’m into girls like Jennifer Lawrence! Pleasure to meet you!” – Yuji Itadori
What a way to introduce yourself, huh? We’re talking about meeting the principal of a school, and the first thing that comes out of your mouth is your preference in women? I love it. It’s an honest introduction! Nobody cares about your age or where your from, but your preference in women says a lot about a man. That is a fact. Just go ask Aoi Todo, he’s sure to back me up on this one!
“A dying wish? So you’re saying you’ll fight against curses because someone else told you to? You fail.” – Masamichi Yaga
The disgust in Masamichi Yaga’s voice was utterly clear; he was appalled by Yuji’s answer to his question about his resolve and reason for fighting. If you fight because someone told you to, you’ll lack the conviction to follow through as it’s not something you want to do yourself. It’s like a monetary inheritance. Sure, it’s now your money, but you didn’t earn it. It wasn’t your heart that fought for it, but someone else. So you’ll spend it wrong, not grasping the value of it, as it was just given to you. Therefore, Yaga is saying that if you fight only because someone told you, you’ll fail. The only way to win in fights is to fight for a personal reason of greater value than someone else’s wish. You must have your heart in it. And I agree!
“A person’s true nature reveals itself during a crisis. I’ll keep attacking you until I get an acceptable answer.” – Masamichi Yaga
Masamichi Yaga is speaking facts in the most memorable monologue of the Jujutsu Kaisen TV anime. In this part of Episode 2, Yaga beats the breaks off of Yuji Itadori with a vicious lil’ teddy bear, while trying to figure out his “true nature”. In the eyes of principal Yaga, it’s important to know WHY, and not IF, someone fights. It’s a matter of principal, no pun intended. Considering that Yuji Itadori is a new student, it’s vital that principal Yaga can trust him with his teaching. I guess you could say that Yaga wants to know who he’s dealing with. Thus, he delivers this nice line about why he’s whooping Yuji with a teddy bear; to find out what lies beneath the surface.
“A Jujutsu Sorcerer is constantly facing death. And not just their own death. Sometimes you must ignore those murdered by a curse to rend the flesh from it. It’s an unpleasant job. You have to be a little crazy and highly motivated to handle it. You’d do that because someone else told you to? Don’t make me laugh.” – Masamichi Yaga
Masamichi Yaga doesn’t get enough credit for this jaw-dropping insight that he gives us in the second episode of Jujutsu Kaisen. Every single thing he says packs a punch, holds weight, and describes what it means to be a Jujutsu Sorcerer. In this part of episode 2, Principal Yaga gives a raw and unfiltered description of what it means to live as one of them. It doesn’t just mean having the ability to learn how to hone your skills to defeat curses, but what you must do on the mental side of things. If you’re constantly facing death, can you ignore murder to do what is right in the moment? Will you falter because of your attachment to those no longer alive? I guess you could say that Yaga is giving Yuji Itadori a proper reality check, and it’s awesome!
Principal Yaga’s methods may be considered cruel, but his motivation is true and sincere. He just wants to make sure that if Yuji Itadori joins the school, fights curses, that he knows what comes with the “job”. It’s not all fun and games. Sometimes you will lose. Often times you’ll encounter death, and horrifying scenes. So, can you handle it? Like, can you truly do what’s right and not falter? It’s an “unpleasant job”, and you have to be a “little crazy” and “highly motivated”. If you think you have what it takes, then maybe you’re good enough. But if you don’t have what it takes, and are fighting because your grandfather told you to, then you have no place as a Jujutsu Sorcerer.
Overall, these lines are very significant and valuable to Yuji Itadori. It’s the reason I included this quote on the list. I find it to be among the very best Jujutsu Kaisen quotes of Episode 2!
“Are you going to blame your grandfather when you’re killed by a curse, too?” – Masamichi Yaga
Talk about cutting deep? Just 24 hours after losing his only known family member, Yuji Itadori is asked who he’s going to blame if he dies, and Yaga refers to Yuji’s grandfather. While it looks and sounds terrible, what Yaga is saying is actually very logical. If you’re going to fight for your grandfather, then if you die, wouldn’t you blame your grandfather as well? After all, if you only fight because he told you to do so, then you’d lack motivation and proper conviction to point the blame accurately. It’s an honest question, but laid out way too soon, to someone way too good-hearted; Yuji Itadori.
“Jujutsu Sorceres never die without regret.” – Masamichi Yaga
Principal Yaga flat out says that Yuji Itadori will die with “regret”. In fact, he says it with chest. It’s like it’s not even up for debate. It’s more of a foregone conclusion, but is it actually true? Do all Jujutsu Sorcerers die with regret of things that they did, didn’t or couldn’t? But you see, that’s the reason this quote is powerful, as everybody will have a different view on it. Some might believe that every human dies with regret, while others believe that not to be the case. I believe that regret is a part of life. Everybody will regret something little, even if it’s nothing major.
Keep in mind that Yaga is pressuring Yuji into giving him an explanation as to why he wants to join the school. So his inquiry has more to do with how Yuji responds, rather than what lies beneath the statement itself.
“I was always better than most in sports and in fights. But never once did I think ‘this is something only I can do.’ Consuming Sukuna is something only I can do. If I managed to escape my death sentence and ran away from this responsibility, I’d be there eating food, taking a bath, or reading a manga, and the moment I stopped to think, I’d go, ‘Oh, I bet someone’s dying because of Sukuna right now,’ and become depressed. ‘That doesn’t involve me.’ ‘It’s not my fault.’ You expect me to just tell myself that? I refuse to do that. I don’t know how I’ll feel when I’m dying, but I don’t want to regret the way I lived!” – Yuji Itadori
Yuji Itadori opens with a compelling dichotomy in his perspective on his exceptional abilities. With a reflective tone, he says that while he’s physically superior to others, he doesn’t have a sense of superiority. His belief firmly holds that others possess their own unique strengths. In striking contrast, he solely has the ability to absorb Sukuna’s fingers, showing that he’s aware of this difference. It also gives us a look at Yuji’s self-confidence and how humble he is when looking at himself as an individual. It’s truly heartwarming, and it offers profound insight into how he perceives his own talents in physical prowess and supernatural tasks.
Pay attention to how Yuji struggles with the idea of living his life, minding his own business, knowing that Sukuna could be out there killing people. If he doesn’t consume him, harm will come to innocent people, who will die the “wrong way”. Remember what Yuji thought about in episode 1? He was asking himself what’s a proper death? These thoughts, questions, came from Yuji’s grandfather, and have planted a seed within his soul. Now, he can’t turn back the clock and undo what’s been done. He ate Sukuna’s finger, and he survived, now he has the responsibility to do what’s right. It’s amazing to see him acknowledge it.
All in all, it’s a beautiful quote showcasing Yuji’s resolve, his strong will, and his determination.
Now it’s time to wrap things up. I hope that you enjoyed these 21 Jujutsu Kaisen quotes from episode 2! I hope that you stick around for the best quotes from episode 3! Coming later this week!
