Jurassic World is considered an action adventure, but without comedy, it wouldn’t be Jurassic Park, now would it? While not an essential ingredient, the comedy serves a vital purpose. It’s a way to show humanity in comparison to dinosaurs, and how we cope with things, even during the darkest of times. It’s a way to contrast the danger from the dinosaurs, and the deep story. With that being said, I want to know who are the funniest characters in Jurassic World? Who is the funniest of ’em all? Well, it’s time to find out. I present to you, the top 5 funniest characters in Jurassic World!
5. Masrani

Masrani isn’t a traditionally funny character, as he doesn’t go around making jokes or being a funny individual. In fact, he’s just the 6th richest man on the world, a billionaire, who loves to live life to the fullest! Even without a license to pilot a helicopter, he still gambles on operating one just because he’s rich, and he can afford it. But what makes him funny are the comments he make here and there, together with some wholesome facial expressions. Well, it’s what he does before Indominus Rex escapes and turns the park into a feeding ground for dinosaurs.
I guess you could say that Masrani’s sense of humor is wholesome and light-hearted. It’s not like he’s funny in and of himself, but his way of approaching life put a smile on my face. Thus, I’m gonna start off the list with him, instead of many other poorly written comedic characters. At least Masrani was mostly unintentionally funny, which worked with the story, while many other characters were forced to pump out bad jokes, one after the other. So, I’m glad to give some praise to Masrani.
4. Gray

Children are often very funny in Jurassic Park, and Gray is no different. He joins Lex, Tim and Kelly as one of the brightest and most heartwarmingly humorous characters in the franchise.
What makes Gray funny is how well he plays off of other characters. It doesn’t matter what he is doing or who’s around him, he has an ability to speak and behave in a funny way in almost every situation. Whether he’s questioning his brother staring at girls or he’s being chased by the Indominus Rex, Gray always has something humorous to do. Sometimes it’s intentional, and sometimes it’s Ty Simpkins being himself; a wholesome individual. With that being said, Gray makes some truly uncomfortable scenes much more pleasant with his childish behavior and charm.
🥉 Lowery

Lowery is most definitely the comedic relief character in Jurassic World. Everything he does, from his nerdy behavior to his ability to make every situation awkward, is done with the sole purpose of making us laugh. While it doesn’t always work, most of the time he does manage to pull through with a poorly written joke. It’s not often, but it’s enough to make me want to include him on my list. I mean, just look at the painful conversation he had with Vivian? Here we have a guy staying behind to save what’s left of the park, and right as he’s about to go in for the kiss, he gets denied. It’s a very uncomfortable moment, but it’s also very funny.
Honestly, I was expecting more from Lowery. Considering that he’s the “funny guy”, I would’ve loved to see him in a more prominent role. It would’ve fit well, as Jurassic World struck a great balance between serious storytelling and humorous side-plots. In turn, he would’ve been nice if treated like Dennis Nedry. Maybe then, he would’ve gotten more to do and have proper time to set up jokes, instead of dishing them out like a fast-food joint.
🥈 Claire Dearing

Claire is like a sand castle, isn’t she? Build to perfection, with a beautiful design, but sensitive to tough, and everything else that could destroy her “perfect form”. And by that I’m referring to her “perfect lifestyle”, with her neat look, great way of talking and beautiful way of walking. This, however, is everything that she has to break in order to survive, and save her nephews in Jurassic World. It’s the reason she’s so darn funny, as she’s like a fish out of water trying to run with the dinosaurs, which she doesn’t understand too well. In this crash course, she learns to survive, manage herself, and realize that she’s never in control in nature. It leads to numerous hilarious moments.
Before we move on, I have to give Claire some extra credit. I’d say that the funniest moment in Jurassic World is when Claire ties up her fancy white shirt and pulls up her sleeves. With a ton of attitude, she places her hands on her hips and mean mugs Owen. It’s honestly a really good moment, and it really cracks me up everytime I watch it!
🥇 Owen Grady

Honestly, I should just write “Chris Pratt” instead of “Owen Grady”, as it’s a classic case of the actor making the role funnier than it would’ve been otherwise. While I’m sure the writers are responsible for some of it, but without Chris Pratt’s sarcastic line delivery and hilarious facial expressions during serious scenes, none it would’ve been possible. After all, that’s what Chris Pratt is known for; being funny! Whether intentional or not, he’s a funny individual, and that shines through in his role as Owen Grady.
What makes Owen the funniest character, aside from Chris Pratt’s inability to be serious, is his approach to various situations. I say this as a compliment. Most of the time, his funny bone works wonderfully well, and this is one of those cases. With his genuine personality, he gives Owen Grady a very comfortable feel, as if he’s always “in control”. While that might not be the case, his demeanor makes him feel very good at what he does. In turn, he can joke around, in style, while still being a badass. I’d actually say that Owen’s subtle sense of humor is one of his most notable traits. It makes him feel more human than most other characters.
