Admittedly, we’ve been living in a nightmare for awhile, haven’t we? Considering the pandemic, none of us can safely say that we’re completely sane anymore. If nothing else, we’ve learned that we love and hate ourselves equally as much, am I right? However, I’m not here to discuss that, and honestly hope that everyone is feeling alright during this time. Perhaps a good horror movie will take your mind off things? For the sake of a better 2021, I present to you the 5 horror movies to watch out for in 2021! I sincerely hope you enjoy.
Horror is a special thing, isn’t it? While we hate being frightened, we enjoyed it as well! Perhaps we enjoy the adrenaline rush or maybe we love to challenge ourselves? Honestly, there’s no right or wrong answer. Who knows? Maybe you’re a glutton for punishment, just like me? I guess we’ll never know! However, horror movies are special, we can agree on that! 5. Malignant

Director: James Wan
Writers: Akela Cooper, Ingrid Bisu and James Wan
There’s very little known about Malignant, but my blind belief in James Wan’s excellence is enough for me! While it’s too early to tell whether it’ll be good or not, James Wan’s track record speaks for itself. Let’s not forget that he brought us Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring. Hence, when it comes to horror, we’re in good hands with James Wan at the helm! However, we do have the title of the movie, Malignant. Therefore, we can draw some conclusions, based on the definition of the word: “tending to produce death or deterioration”. That’s Merriam-Webster for you! Nevertheless, I’m sure it’ll be twisted and disturbing, something we’ve come to expect from James Wan horror movies!
Malignant will star Annabelle Wallis, Maddie Hasson and George Young.

4. Antlers
Director: Scott Cooper
Writers: Nick Antosca, Henry Chaisson and Scott Cooper
Honestly, it’s difficult being a teacher, isn’t it? Especially for Julia Meadows, considering that one of her students is hiding a mythical creature in his attic, and feeding it rabbits! Yeah, that’s something that might come up during the parent-teacher conference, right? Anyhow, the young boy, named Lucas Weaver, is seemingly doing this to protect people. But it’s not long before the creature breaks free and runs rampant! So, who you gonna call? Keri Russell, obviously! She’s badass, and let me tell you, she’s not afraid of antlers!
So, what type of mythological creature is featured in Antlers? While it obviously looks like a Wendigo, it could equally as well be a blood-thirsty mutated deer? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
Keri Russell will star in this movie, alongside Jesse Plemons, Graham Greene and Jeremy T. Thomas.

3. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Director: Michael Chaves
Writers: David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and James Wan
The Conjuring 3 is right around the corner, which means Ed and Lorraine Warren will embark on another terrifying adventure! Just like the first two movies, this one’s based on a real-life event, known as the “Devil Made Me Do It” case from the 80s. Hence, the title of the movie, and the story it’s adapting; the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. Therefore, we’ll be diving headfirst into another demonic possession case! For more information on the actual event, simply watch the video above!
So, why isn’t The Conjuring 3 ranked higher? Honestly, I’m worried about Michael Chaves directing the film, considering that he’s known for The Curse of la Llorona. Admittedly, the film was shot fine, but it’s considered to be the worst of The Conjuring Universe. However, I’m a huge fan of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, so I’ll likely love it no matter what!
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren. They’ll be sharing the screen with the likes of Ruairi O’Connor, Julian Hilliard, Charlene Amoia and Sterling Jerins.

2. A Quiet Place Part 2
Director: John Krasinski
Writers: Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and John Krasinski
Considering the success of the first movie, there’s plenty of reasons to be excited for A Quiet Place Part 2! Whether it’s the returning Abbott family or the addition of Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou, the sequel looks excellent. While it’s too early to tell, I’m looking forward to the new setting, as we’re finding ourselves beyond the sand path. Thus, we’ll be thrown into an unknown world, where the creatures could be the least of our worries! Nevertheless, it’s great to see an Oscar-nominated horror movie get a sequel. It’s not only fantastic for the horror community, but it kind of makes us proud of Krasinski and Blunt’s efforts! Here’s to hoping for a trilogy!
A Quiet Placet Part 2 will star Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou and Millicent Simmonds.

1. Candyman
Director: Nia DaCosta
Writers: Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Nia DaCosta and Clive Barker
Perhaps it’s the subtlety in Jordan Peele’s writing that makes me excited for Candyman? Maybe it’s the eerie undertones and the light-hearted nature of his previous work? I must admit, it’s all of the above, as well as Jordan Peele’s understanding of psychological horror. Given, that’s a lot of praise, but Candyman looks absolutely fantastic! While it’s dubbed as the spiritual sequel of the original movie with the same name, this remake will undoubtedly have it’s own voice. Not only that, but it’s directed by up-and-coming director Nia DaCosta. While some may be worried about her inexperience, I’m more than confident that she’ll impress us, especially after watching the trailer. So, whether it’s the screenplay or the directing, one thing’s certain, Candyman is a must-watch in 2021!
For whatever reason, I’m sure that Jordan peele’s thinking “You have seen nothing yet”!
Candyman will star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo. Plus, we’ll see Vanessa Williams and Tony Todd reprising their roles from Candyman (1992).
