Top 5 Attack on Titan Funny Moments (Season 1)

Attack on Titan anime’s excellent, often considered suspensful, grim and dramatic – all of which are positive qualities. Therefore, it shouldn’t be surprising that the superb action and tear-jerking emotional moments made season 1 very memorable. However, we shouldn’t forget about the humorous scenes that lightened the mood and had us snickering. Given, there’s not much to choose from, but it’s appropriate to lift moments that genuinely gave way to laughter. Whether it’s Sasha’s disregard of law or Hange’s obsession with titans, the jokes ease the tension during some truly dark times. While Sasha Blouse is obviously the comedic relief, Hange has her share of funny moments as well. So, which moments moments made you laugh? Well, here’s my list of Attack on Titan funny moments (season 1). I hope you enjoy!

5. Sasha Blouse Reveals “Borrowed” Meat to Her Friends

Sasha Blouse reveals stolen meat to her friends

Oh, Sasha Blouse, can nothing satisfy your hunger? Well, who could have thought that following the potato incident, she’d go off and “borrow” some meat? I surely didn’t, yet I was quick to laugh when she revealed the stolen good to her comrades. While she’s able to control herself initially, she suddenly starts drooling when thinking about spreading that meat across some bread. Given, even I wouldn’t say no to a good sandwich, yet Sasha’s excitement was on another level. She seemed possessed when speaking about the meat, even laughing maniacally. In all honesty, it looked like she was having an orgasm just thinking about a sandwich, making it as awkward as it’s humorous. It’s short and sweet, straight to the point and well-structured, making it a noteworthy comedic moment. It’s worthy of a few laughs, that’s for damn sure!

4. Jean Kirstein Wipes His Faith In Humanity off on Connie Springer

Jean Kirstein looking at Connie Springer with intense stare

One moment we see Jean admire Mikasa’s beauty, a few second later he’s wiping his faith in humanity off on Connie Springer. But why? Well, he witnessed his crush walking together with Eren Yeager. Therefore, Jean Kirstein immediately jumped to the conclusion that the two were romantically involved. Keep in mind, moments earlier, he buried the hatchet with Eren, shaking his hand. However, when he sees the two of them walking together, he wipes that same hand on Connie’s back. In turn, metaphorically wiping away the truce he made with Eren, together with his faith/trust in humanity. While the last part is obviously an exaggeration, it’s the way Jean explains himself that makes it humorous in a subtle way. At the same time, some might’ve caught it instantly, other’s could’ve blinked and missed it completely. However, the subtlety makes it funny, easily able to fuel a good giggle!

3. Hange Witnesses Eren Yeager’s Transformation

Hange Zoe touching the scorching hot titan arm

When Eren fails to transform on command, he shockingly creates his titan arm by accident when picking up a spoon. With Levi’s crew ready to cut him down, Hange’s entrance into the scene turns it from dead serious to comedic! She literally comes running, drooling with excitement, and her reaction makes it as endearing as it’s hilarious. However, she burns herself then touching the titan arm, making her do an epic slide and throw her arms in the air, as if it was worth it. While it’s quite over-the-top and silly, it’s made adorable by Hange stomping the ground when the arm disintegrates. In turn, it’s the continous cycle of events that make it humorous, with good timing and great voice acting. Therefore, it’s one of the best Attack on Titan funny moments!

2. Keith Shadis Rips Into the Trainees of the 104th Squad

Keith Shadis picking up Connie Springer by his head

This chain of scolding is a sight to behold, mixing physical and verbal comedy, with enough time to set-up jokes properly. It’s made amusing by the abundance of comedic interactions, stacked one after another, with Keith Shadis as the catalyst. Consequently, there’s no time to laugh at Jean Kirstein receiving a headbutt, without carrying that laughter over to Marco Bott’s humiliation. It’s followed by Connie Springer being picked up by his head, and while cosmetic, it was quite funny nonetheless. Not only were these moments well-animated, the angles made them funnier than they would’ve been otherwise, that’s for sure!

In all fairness, it’s merely foreplay for the eventual showdown between Shadis and Blouse, with the conclusion giving birth to “Potato Girl”. So, when Sasha get’s caught with a potato, she suggests a peace offering – half of potato for instructor Shadis? That obviously didn’t go well, leading to a funny trade of words, as if the comedy had reached its climax! However, it’s the overall structure, well-chosen angles and the physical element that makes it really humorous. In turn, it’s worthy of a re-watch, time and time again!

1. Sasha Blouse Goes Crazy Over Bread

Sasha Blouse holding a pose with bread in hand and Krista looking worried

This hilarious moment starts off much like a horror movie! Suddenly, we see Sasha’s eyes change color, she darts towards a person and then growls on all fours, looking completely possessed. So, what happened? Is this The Excorcist? No, it’s a false alarm, as it’s Sasha Blouse demonstrating her Gremlin-like abilities when tired and famished. Not to mention, the bright pink eyes and unrealistic leap were merely cosmetic, which means she’s fine, right? It’s not long before she strikes a fierce pose, with bread in-hand. So, with exhaustion and delusion setting in, Sasha mistakes Krista for God, grabbing her and asking if she’s actually God. I mean, who can blame her? Krista appeared out of nowhere, coming to Sasha’s aid in time of hunger! While that’s a major stretch, I’m just trying to think like Potato Girl, alright?

Overall, it’s the funny animations and quirky dialogue that makes it downright hilarious. However, Sasha Blouse’s Japanese voice actor deserves praise for her performance, selling the moment with her amazing delivery. In conclusion, it earns the first spot on this list – top 5 Attack on Titan funny moments (Season 1)!
