The Tatami Galaxy sequel, titled Tatami Time Machine Blues, is getting an anime adaptation by Science SARU. It’s a big deal, as The Tatami Galaxy is one of the greatest TV anime of all time, ranking at #72 on MyAnimeList. Thus, the sequel has plenty to live up to, and ever since the announcement, we’ve been longing for a first-look at the show. Now, a 15-second Tatami Time Machine Blues teaser trailer has been released, featuring an illustration of the lead characters. Thus, I’d suggest giving it a watch, as it’s definitely a teaser! While it’s a short clip, it’s a great way to get the franchise fans’ hearts racing!
Tomihiko Morimi’s The Tatami Galaxy novel series released between 2004 and 2008, with the anime adaptation airing in 2010. With only 11 episodes, The Tatami Galaxy was able to capture audiences around the world, with it’s abstract storytelling and complex characters. Therefore, The Tatami Galaxy anime is a must watch!

Plot: “The Tatami Galaxy protagonist’s trouble-making friend Ozu gets the student apartments’ only air conditioner remote control wet, breaking it on a certain midsummer day. The students wonder what to do about the situation for the remainder of the summer and make a plan with Akashi. An unstylish male student from 25 years in the future arrives in a time machine. The protagonist travels back in time to try to retrieve the remote control before it is broken.”

Shingo Natsume is directing Tatami Time Machine Blues, based on Makoto Ueda’s script, at Science SARU. At this time there’s no official release date. But, Tatami Time Machine Blues is likely to premiere in 2022!
