Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been promoting his upcoming film Jungle Cruise, alongside his co-star, Emily Blunt. Therefore, it’s been a great few weeks of interviews, one more interesting than the other. In turn, a lot has been revealed about the film, the chemistry between Dwayne and Emily, but also about a certain feud. I’m obviously referring to The Rock’s conflict with Vin Diesel. It’s been going on for years, and it seems like there’s no end in sight? A few months ago, Vin was interviewed by Men’s Health, and had the following to say about Dwayne Johnson.
“My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be. As a producer to say, Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know—Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks. That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic. That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”– Vin Diesel
The Rock’s Conflict With Vin Diesel Has To Do With “Tough Love”? Dwayne Responds to Vin’s Comments.
Following this interview, some news outlets thought that “tough love” might’ve been the reason behind Vin and Dwayne’s feud. While it’s a logical conclusion, it’s obvious that it’s not the case. Perhaps you’re wondering why? We’re talking about a professional wrestler, who’s no stranger to “tough love”, pressure, or anything of the sort. If anything, Dwayne would’ve been able to take it and dish it out, something he’s known for doing. Not just because of his great sense of humor, but because of his personality and behavior. I mean, he’s known for being great to work with, and his only real blemish is with the Fast crew. Unsurprisingly, during Dwayne Johnson’s cover story by The Hollywood Reporter, he was asked about Vin’s “tough love” comments. The former pro-wrestler had this to say.
“I laughed and I laughed hard. I think everyone had a laugh at that. And I’ll leave it at that. And that I’ve wished them well. I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me.”– Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Honestly, we shouldn’t choose sides, as we all want to see Toretto and Hobbs back together on the big screen. In turn, it’s best to stay neutral, as we don’t know what transpired between the actors. I mean, from what I’ve gathered, they simply didn’t gell well, and that’s it! Vin wanted to take the franchise in a certain direction, and Dwayne didn’t like or agree with his ideas and vision. Thus, we’ve got our feud, plain and simple.
One big question remains, will The Rock’s conflict with Vin Diesel be resolved? Will they actually settle their differences, so that we might see them together in a future Fast film? According to The Rock, it’ll be a Fast future “without” him. Here’s to hoping that they’ll find common ground in the future, as they made one hell of a pairing on-screen!
